PSHe

Vision

At Fair Field, our PSHE curriculum is centred around fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion for every child. We believe that when children feel accepted and valued, they are happier, more confident, and better equipped to form meaningful friendships and share their thoughts openly. Our PSHE curriculum is built on the foundation of our core values: respect, honesty, perseverance, kindness, forgiveness, and inclusion, alongside British values.

Our curriculum celebrates the unique qualities of every individual, recognising that our differences enrich our school and wider community. By embracing diversity, we share in a culture of understanding and kindness. We believe that inclusion creates a sense of belonging, and together we will thrive. Our curriculum equips children with the skills and knowledge to succeed in an ever-changing world, prioritising their mental health and well-being. At Fair Field, we are committed to creating an environment of understanding where everyone feels welcome, able to thrive and ready for the modern world.

How we teach PSHE at Fair Field

At Fair Field, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE program, which provides clear progression through the topics of:

  1. Being Me In My World: Focuses on belonging, welcoming others, and being part of various communities, as well as children's rights, responsibilities, and pupil voice.
  2. Celebrating Difference: Teaches about diversity, including disability, racism, and friendships, and addresses anti-bullying, including cyber and homophobic bullying.
  3. Dreams and Goals: Encourages children to think about their hopes, dreams, and goals for success, focusing on teamwork, overcoming challenges, and managing emotions.
  4. Healthy Me: Covers emotional and mental health, including relaxation and managing stress, as well as physical health, including diet, activity, cleanliness, and safety.
  5. Relationships: Builds respectful relationships, covering families, friendships, and love, and focuses on safeguarding, online safety, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
  6. Changing Me: Discusses growing up, puberty, self-respect, and transitions, and covers life cycles and human reproduction.

Alongside our Jigsaw curriculum, we use a resource designed by Fair Field staff called "Inclusion Creates Belonging - Together we Thrive." This resource includes carefully selected picture books for each year group, custom lesson plans, and integrates our school values and British values. We ensure balanced coverage of all protected characteristics across each phase, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels valued and can thrive.
